Billy Richmond Commits To Kentucky

You thought John Calipari was done? Not so fast my friend. First, Cal got the state of Kentucky's all-time high school leading scorer, Travis Perry, to stay home and play for Kentucky just last week. Then, he went and got class of 2024 phenom, Jayden Quaintance. And now, he just got the blessing in another commitment from 4-star small forward, Billy Richmond.

Billy Richmond just announced that he wants to join Kentucky's already impressive recruiting class for next season. He joins Somto Cyril, Boogie Fland, Travis Perry, and Jayden Quaintance.

The newest Wildcat is a 6'5" small forward from Memphis, Tennessee, and he is currently a senior for Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey. Richmond is a top-20 recruit as he is ranked right at 20th overall in his class nationally, and seventh overall at his position along with being the second-best player from the state of New Jersey according to Rivals.

Even though I see Billy playing at the three position, I could see Calipari working him into the shooting guard role as he already has a very pure stroke on his shot. Might have to wait and see what Karter Knox decides to do as well before getting too far in that prediction.

This decision for Billy Richmond to commit to Kentucky wasn't too much of a surprise, however, Kentucky did have to fight for Billy Richmond as he had several other offers from many other schools such as Memphis, Alabama, LSU, Connecticut, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, Michigan, Texas, Villanova, and many others. At the end of the day, I am sure that it had a lot to do with the fact that Billy Richmond's father, Billy Richmond Jr., played under John Calipari from 2002-2004 while he was coaching at Memphis. These last few years have been the sons of former players for Cal, and it's really cool to see.

Kentucky is really making a heavy push during the early signing period for the 2024 class. There are just a couple of key pieces of the puzzle waiting to fall into place and that is Karter Knox and VJ Edgecombe. One would think that Kentucky would be the leader for Karter Knox, brother of former Kentucky player, Kevin Knox, but no official commitment from the kid just yet. Karter Knox also had Louisville in his final list of schools but I don't see that happening. Kenny Payne is the only target of interest for him there.

Here are some highlights of Kentucky's latest commit, Billy Richmond, for your viewing pleasure.
