Cats' First True Road Test Of Season
Updated: Dec 11, 2021
The Cats are early favorites ahead of their trip down to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. Despite being the clearly better team this season, I would wait before sharpie-ing this game in as a win just yet.
Coach Cal's teams historically have done very poorly in their first true road game of the year. Since Cal got to Kentucky, the Cats have a 5-7 record when going into an opponent's stadium for the that season.
2009-10: W @ Indiana
2010-11: L @ North Carolina
2011-12: L @ Indiana
2012-13: L @ Notre Dame
2013-14: L @ North Carolina
2014-15: W @ Louisville
2015-16: L @ UCLA
2016-17: L @ Louisville
2017-18: W @ LSU
2018-19: W @ Louisville
2019-20: W @ Georgia
2020-21: L @ Georgia Tech
However, Kentucky has taken 3 of these games in a row before losing last season, which many of the Kentucky fan base would consider to be a "throw away" season.
Purcell Pavilion will be rocking. Both the players and Coach Cal will need to be on their A game if they want to avoid an unranked upset, which we are seeing so many top teams fall to.
