CJ Fredrick Announces He Will Enter The Transfer Portal

"Forever a Wildcat," said the UK men's basketball player in a social media post Friday afternoon declaring his decision to leave the program.

Former Covington Catholic star who spent his first two years of collegiate ball at the University of Iowa, after committing to them directly out of High School, found his way into eventually coming home and playing for the Wildcats in the summer of 2021. CJ spent his first year in town redshirting on Kentucky's bench, then finally getting to find action on court this past season. While he's spent most of his career battling injuries, that's what ultimately led to his limited performance in the blue. In just 27 games played, Fredrick totaled in 164 points, 34 three-pointers, 41 assists, 21 rebounds, and 14 steals. I believe many see the experience as to not what it was expected to be originally, and unfortunately it's just because he couldn't stay healthy. Injuries kept him either sidelined or held back nearly the entire time on the roster.

It's crazy how fast time flies by, but after two seasons here, it looks like he's officially back in the transfer portal. "Having fulfilled this lifetime dream, I feel it is in my best interest to explore every option for my future for so many reasons. In addition to considering professional options, I'll be entering the portal while maintaining my college eligibility," said the sharpshooter.

After spending the first few weeks of the offseason debating if he even wanted to continue playing basketball as a career path, it seems like the love for the game has risen high enough because his road looks to being continuing. Multiple schools have reached out already per reports, so it will be interesting to see where he lands. "I hope that everyone knows that I've given my heart and soul to you and I'm proud that I'll always get to be a Wildcat."
