Detroit, Michigan native Deone Walker has opened eyes across the Bluegrass since the moment he stepped on campus last summer and is continuing to do so across the country. Pro Football Focus recently named their top 10 returning defensive linemen in the SEC, and as you can guess, the 6-6 350-pound true-sophomore made the cut.
In 2022, the true freshman played in all 13 games while recording 40 total tackles. Walker recorded 5 quarterback rushes (2nd highest on team), forced a fumble, and recorded a sack against Louisville. The sought after athlete has totaled 6 tackles twice, his current personal record against Georgia and Louisville.
Kentucky defensive line coach, Anwar Stewart, is in a situation that he has not familiarized himself with as a coach at Kentucky. This defensive line is deep and TALENTED. With a quicker Octavious Oxendine, Darrion Henry-Young, Tre'vonn Rybka, Sam Anaele, Kahlil Saunders, and Josaih Hayes, as well as a future NFL talent in Deone Walker, expect a depth Kentucky has not seen in a long time. Also, this will result in a lot more pressure on the opposing quarterbacks, a feat UK has not seen consistently since the Josh Allen era.
According to PFF's list, it appears the SEC East will have the most talented single stars amongst them. As Walker moves on with his career, it will be interesting to watch him develop into hopefully one of the best in the conference.
