Wake up, Big Blue Nation! It's time to get the dice out because Kentucky just landed another commitment for the 2024 class. While most of us were probably asleep when it happened last night, three-star prospect, Devin Smith, made the decision that he was going to continue his athletic career as a Kentucky Wildcat.
Devin Smith is a 6-foot and 220-pound linebacker out of Brunswick, Georgia. Smith is currently in his senior season with Brunswick High School. Last season, Devin won the Coastal Georgia All-Area Defensive Player of the Year award. He managed to win this award even with having to miss a couple of games due to injury. He recorded 63 tackles on the season, 10 of which were for a loss, 6 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries.
Smith had been going back in forth between Kentucky and LSU when trying to decide where he would attend college, however, he still had several other options from some very highly-ranked programs. He had offers from schools such as Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Miami, Michigan State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, and many others.
According to 247 Sports, Devin Smith is ranked as the 547th best player in the entire nation, the 52nd best linebacker in the class, and the 61st overall player in the state of Georgia in the 2024 class. Devin Smith isn't a guy who is going to come in and get minutes immediately but from what I have seen in his highlight videos, the raw talent is there and hopefully Mark Stoops and the rest of the coaching staff can mold him into another top linebacker.
Here is some film from Devin Smith's junior season.
