What a tough loss to swallow that one was... Kentucky dropped an overtime fight in College Station to Texas A&M in a conference road game environment if I've ever seen one. Sold out, students returning early from winter break, their fans got up for this one that's for sure. That's nothing new though. We expected it. I just don't think we collectively thought Kentucky would be returning home with the loss from the 0-2 (in conference play) Aggies that I believe many would still say that Kentucky is the better team. Either way, a loss is a loss, and you have to hold yourself accountable for it.
The final score was 97-92 in overtime, which now takes the Wildcats' record to 12-3 (2-1) on the season. In the game this afternoon, Kentucky was led by Antonio Reeves (22), DJ Wagner (18), and Rob Dillingham (15). Here is the total stat sheet to see how the team held up.
We got see a lot of great offense, but most of it got soaked up by Kentucky's awful defensive efforts and bad shot selection in the crunch time minutes which ultimately led to the outcome.
Kentucky will return to Lexington this evening and in the coming days will start preparing for when they host Mississippi State at home on Wednesday night where they'll look to try to get back into the win column. Their 6-game winning streak was snapped this afternoon in the matchup.
