Final Stats In The Loss Versus Tennessee

After a disappointing finish on Wednesday night with a loss to the Florida Gators, Kentucky played their first game of the season tonight against the Tennessee Volunteers. Just like with Florida, Kentucky has a home-and-home with the Vols. Kentucky went 1-1 against the Gators as the Cats stole a win on the road but fell to them at home. Kentucky is keeping the same pattern as they fall to the Volunteers tonight in Lexington, 103-92.

Kentucky never led in the game tonight and was only tied once as well. The Cats were playing catchup early on and even though Kentucky would go on several runs throughout the game, they never could fully capitalize enough to pull ahead on the scoreboard. Within the first 5 minutes of the game Kentucky found themselves down 16-5 due to a couple of three-point baskets by Tennesee guard Zakai Ziegler.

Very similar to the Florida loss, we see that an incredible performance by a single player couldn't get the job done. Rob Dillingham had a career-high 35 points tonight on 14-20 shooting in only 27 minutes played. There were two other Cats in double figures as Reed Sheppard had 16 and Antonio Reeves scored near his season average with 21.

The Volunteers' scoring was a little bit more spread out as they had five players in double figures. Josiah James and Zakai Ziegler had 26 a piece while Dalton Knecht finished with 16. Santia Vescovi and Jonas Aidoo brought in 11 a piece to add to the team total. If you had told me that Kentucky was going to hold Knecht to sixteen on the night I would have told you that Kentucky would have a great chance to win the game, however, that was not the case tonight.

Kentucky is now on a two-game losing streak and has lost three out of their last four games in conference play. They return to action on Tuesday night as they look to get back in the win column against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The game is scheduled to tip off at 8:30 pm ET/7:30 pm CT.
