Final Stats In Win At Mississippi State

Kentucky got a gritty win down in Starkville on Wednesday night as they defeated the Bulldogs, 71-68. It was must-win battle on the road - on the road against a conference opponent that was on a five-game winning streak I must note - that the Cats desperately needed to find for their second Quad 1 win of the season.

It came down to the wire as Chris Livingston and Oscar Tshiebwe hit some late free-throws in crunch time to maintain the lead. While it was a quiet night from Kentucky's point guard (Cason Wallace), Jacob Toppin commanded dominance with his 16 points, backed by Oscar Tshiebwe's 18 points and 11 rebounds. They weren't the only ones as Antonio Reeves (14) and Chris Livingston (13) reached double-digits in scoring as well.

This was a bubble matchup as ESPN's Joe Lunardi had Mississippi State as one of the 'Last Four In' in his bracketology with Kentucky tabbed as one of the 'Last Four Out'. Joe said if Kentucky could win this game it would move them into the category (LFI) for the immediate time being, essentially keeping their postseason hopes up for a few more days.

Up next for the Wildcats is a top-tier conference matchup with Tennessee in Lexington as Kentucky looks to avoid revenge sought out by the Volunteers. Tonight the No. 10 Volunteers took down No. 1 Alabama as they will be coming in on a roaring high to Rupp Arena this Saturday, looking to continue their madness. Kentucky needs to double-down for a second win over Rick Barnes' crew and add an additional Quad 1 win to their resume.

Here are the highlights from tonight's game.
