Football: Kentucky Cracks Preseason AP Top 25

Updated: Sep 1, 2022

For the first time since 1978, Kentucky football is ranked in the AP preseason poll, ranked 20th out of the 25. This announcement comes on the heels of the Wildcats being ranked in the preseason coaches poll for the first time in program history.

Mark Stoops and this Kentucky football program have reached unfamiliar territory and are finally receiving the preseason hype that they deserve from everyone except John Calipari. The preseason ranking, along with the second place SEC east vote by the media, shows that people are starting to take Kentucky seriously on a national level. Assuming Kentucky makes it past Miami (OH) in week one, this would allow a ranked Kentucky team to play an unranked Florida team in Gainsville for the first time ever.

Noticing a theme here? This team is making history and they have not even played a snap yet. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication by Stoops and this program over the past 10 years. Kentucky will look to enjoy more history, as they try to reach their ultimate goal of reaching Atlanta for the SEC Championship game. September 3rd cannot get here soon enough.
