Four Wildcats Receive NFL Scouting Combine Invites

Since it is Super Bowl Sunday, my mind has traveled towards thinking about the football team and the guys who are making the transition to the league this offseason. While quarterback Will Levis headlines the group, there are a handful of guys who have serious hopes of playing at the next level. There are currently four Wildcats who have been invited to this year's NFL Draft Combine.

The four include quarterback Will Levis, offensive lineman Tashawn Manning, running back Chris Rodriguez and defensive back Carrington Valentine. They are invited to the event where 300 of the best college football players across the country will get to showcase their abilities in front of NFL scouts and organizations as they prepare for the actual draft in late April.

The combine schedule will go March 2-5, hosting different position groups each day. Live coverage of it will be hosted on the NFL Network starting at 3 pm ET on Thursday. The schedule looks like this:

  • Thursday, March 2nd, 3 pm ET – Defensive Linemen and Linebackers

  • Friday, March 3rd, 3 pm ET – Defensive Backs

  • Saturday, March 4th, 1 pm ET – Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers, Tight Ends.

  • Sunday, March 5th, 1 pm ET – Running Backs, Offensive Linemen.

Twenty-two different players have been drafted at Kentucky under Mark Stoops, as they look to add a few more this spring. Once Will Levis is picked, it will extend the streak to five straight drafts where a Kentucky player was selected within the first three rounds. Last year's class rounded out with Wan'Dale Robinson being taken 43rd overall (Second Round) by the New York Giants, Josh Paschal being taken 46th overall (Second Round) by the Detroit Lions, Luke Fortner being taken 65th overall (Third Round) by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Darian Kinnard at 145th overall (Fifth Round) by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tonight's Super Bowl matchup will have connections of two former Cats on the sideline, although they won't get any game time. Darian Kinnard is on the active 53-man roster for the Chiefs while Phil Hoskins is on the practice squad.
