Full Recap Including Final Scores of 2022 KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 Tournament

The UK Healthcare KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 tipped off today in Rupp Arena as the winner of each region in the state met up to determine one king of high school basketball in the bluegrass state.

The first day of games tipped off with Lincoln County and Jeffersontown. Lincoln County jumped out to an early lead as they led by 7 at the end of the first quarter. They would maintain around a 7 point lead for the majority of the game. That is until Jeffersontown went on a run in the fourth quarter to take the lead at one point. This wouldn’t matter though as Lincoln County’s Colton Ralston would hit a 3 with 50 seconds to put Lincoln County up 42-41 and they would go on to win the matchup 45-41 to punch their ticket to the Elite 8. Lincoln County was led by Jaxon Smith of Stanford, Kentucky, with 14 points & 7 rebounds, Clayton Davis added 9 points, and Colton Ralston added a nice 12 points & 4 rebounds. Jeffersontown was led by Will Vasser 8 points & 7 rebounds and Lavonte Harris added 7 points & 11 rebounds.

The second game tipped off shortly after with North Oldham and Muhlenberg County. This game stayed close the entire way through as it was tied up at 9 at the end of the first quarter and Muhlenberg County led 22-20 at the half. North Oldham would come out victorious down the stretch as they win their first round matchup 36-32. North Oldham was led by Luke Anderson who had a double-double with 12 points & 11 rebounds. His teammate Dallas Robert added 10 points. Muhlenberg County was led by Cole Vincent who had 8 points & 7 rebounds.

The third game featured George Rogers Clark and Perry County. George Rogers Clark jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they led 35-18 at the half. They would continue on to win 77-36. GRC had several players with stat sheet stuffer games. Jerone Morton led the way for GRC with a 22 points, 5 rebs, & 7 assists performance. Sam Parrish 20 points. Tanner Walton 9 points 10 rebounds, & 5 assists. Trent Edwards 13 pts 5 rebounds, & 4 blocks. For Perry County, Lance McKenzie led the way with 10 points.

The final game of the first day tipped off with a lot of buzz around it as North Laurel would take on Pikeville in a showdown of two of the best teams in the state. Quite frankly, if these two teams were on opposite sides of the bracket, this could’ve potentially been a championship game. North Laurel led early on as they had a 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. However Pikeville would lead 25-20 at halftime. The 3rd quarter treated Pikeville nicely as they got up by 15 at one point. To conclude the day it would be Pikeville victorious, in a game many consider an upset, 59-51. Big man Rylee Samons was on fire for Pikeville as he had 23 points (8 three-pointers), Keian Worrix added 12 points & 6 rebounds. For North Laurel, Nick Robinson added a double-double as he had 14 points & 11 rebounds. Kentucky signee, Reed Sheppard had a big game as he went for 14 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 blocks.
