John Calipari Gives Update On Sahvir Wheeler

With Senior festivities being held tonight when Kentucky takes on the Vanderbilt Commodores, Kentucky Basketball coach, John Calipari, gives an update on Kentucky senior guard, Sahvir Wheeler.

Calipari went on to say, "I hate that Sahvir won't be able to hear the Big Blue Nation show him how much we all love him on Senior Day tonight. I am looking forward to having him back on the court with us soon."

It is disappointing news that Wheeler will not be able to suit up in what could potentially be his last game in Rupp Arena, however, the most important thing is that he takes care of himself so that he can get back healthy so that he can see the floor again at some point this season.

There was a lot of speculation about Sahvir Wheeler's status going into tonight's game against Vanderbilt and I think it is a good thing that Calipari addressed it the way that he did. The two-year Wildcat has done a lot for this program and Sahvir deserves his recognition for that. Calipari stating that he looks forward to having him back on the court soon leaves the mind to speculate if Sahvir will indeed see the court again in a Kentucky uniform.

Even though this Kentucky team is playing some of its best basketball of the season with the absence of Sahvir Wheeler, I firmly believe that to be able to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament this team will need him. Not only does he bring depth to the point guard position, but he brings experience, leadership, and good on-ball defense to add to each matchup. Hopefully whatever procedure Wheeler had on his ankle will assist in it getting better by the time the NCAA Tournament rolls around because if I know one thing, Big Blue Nation wants this team to succeed and we need Sahvir Wheeler in order to do so.
