Kellan Grady Is Becoming A Priority In UK's Offense

The Kellan Grady Show has been watched here and there all season long as Kentucky tries to find their teams' persona. Within the last two games, that narrative has changed, and the Kellan Grady Show hasn't been able to be turned off in days.

Kellan Grady has cemented himself as one of Kentucky's most promising stars on offense, scoring a combined 41 points versus North Carolina and Western Kentucky. John Calipari has repeatedly said in his press conferences that he has pulled players from the games this season if they give up good looks of a shot to pass the ball to someone else, including Kellan Grady in specific. "I took him out at North Carolina. You passed up two shots, you're out."

Kellan says coach told him 'I don't care if there are 20 seconds on the shot clock or 6, shoot it.' The grad-transfer told the media in response, "So that was really all I needed to hear. I guess I kind of should have known that already, but it's great to have a coach that believes in you and wants you to shoot," said the former Davidson star, just moments after scoring a season-high 23 points against WKU, making 6 of his 9 three-point attempts. I guess he got the memo, and Grady winded up shooting 11/16 in his last two outings, showing endless amounts of confidence on every shot he took.

It's clear that Kellan Grady needing guaranteed looks in every single game is no longer an opinion, or a narrative trying to be pushed. Statistically, it makes sense too. Kellan Grady ranks 15th in the country in three-point percentage, and first in the SEC. The team as a whole ranks 274th in the country in three-point attempts a game, so there is plenty of room to start exchanging some shots and passing them over towards Kellan.

He's scored in double figures in 4 of his eleven games as a Wildcat, and seven or more points ten times. Grady leads the team with 29 made three's in only 61 attempts.

Interesting Stats Put Out By UK:

- Grady is one of four players in a Power Five conference averaging at least 10 points per game, shooting 47% or better from 3-point range with at least five 3-point attempts per game, and having connected on at least 20 three's for the season. Illinois' Jacob Grandison, Syracuse's Joseph Girard III and Kansas' Ochai Agbaji are the others.

- With a season-high 23 points against Western Kentucky, Grady has scored in double figures in 100 career games. According to a recent survey of NCAA teams, he is one of just three active players with at least 100 double-figure scoring efforts.

- Grady's current rate of 47.5% from long range would rank sixth all-time in UK single-season history. Cameron Mills has the record with 53.2% (42 of 79) in 1996-97. Doron Lamb's 48.6% (38 of 68) in 2010-11 is the best single-season mark under Calipari.

Kellan Grady is currently averaging 11.2 points per game on 50% shooting from the field, and 47.5% from the three-point line. Getting him shots are a priority.
