Kentucky Adds Penn To Non-Conference Basketball Schedule
The men's basketball program have added Penn to their non-conference schedule, per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
The game will take place in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center on December 9th. The Cats will take on the Quakers of the University of Pennsylvania. On the same day in the same arena, Villanova and UCLA will be facing off against each other as we will get to say hello to former Cat Lance Ware in his new role.
The trip to the state of Pennsylvania will be a boring one on the court, but likely an eventful one off of it. John Calipari has endless ties to the state as he was born in the city of Moon Township, had his first assistant coaching job at Pittsburgh, and currently has three players (Justin Edwards, Adou Thiero, and Tre Mitchell) on his roster from the state. I'm sure the head coach will likely throw in a side-story of a field trip to do some charity work or to do some sight seeing in his old stomping grounds during the trip. The likelihood that Kentucky just goes up there and plays a game and leaves is very unlikely. I don't have any scoop on this, but I've been covering John Calipari for a long time and know his tactics.
The Penn Quakers' last NCAA Tournament appearance came in 2018 with a Final Four appearance back in 1979. The last time the two programs went head-to-head was in Lexington in January of 2011, which UK won by twenty four, 86-62.
