Kentucky Adds Texas State Transfer Zion Childress

With the season ending injury to Vito Tisdale, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops was in a bind. He had no real depth in his safety and nickel spots leaving spring practice. That all changed with the recent addition of Texas State defensive back Zion Childress.

Zion Childress is a 6-foot, 190-pound safety from Houston (TX), who entered the transfer portal in late April. Childress was immediately on the radar of several schools and visited Kentucky, Washington and TCU in the weeks leading up to his decision.

Childress has played both safety positions, as well as nickel for Texas State. He started in eight games and had 74 tackles. While the transition from the Sun Belt Conference to the SEC will take some adjustment, Childress gives the Wildcats the flexibility and depth that Coach Stoops covets.
