Kentucky Assistant Coach Potentially Leaving Staff

As rumors swirl about current Alabama offensive line coach Doug Marrone leaving the program, it appears Kentucky may not escape the off-season without losing an important piece of their coaching staff.

First reported by 247Sports, Kentucky offensive line coach Eric Wolford is allegedly close to striking a deal to join Nick Saban at Alabama as their next offensive line coach.

Wolford was brought into the UK coaching staff soon after the passing of late offensive line coach John Schlarman, and in that time continued the legacy of an established SEC offensive line.

Wolford’s line allowed Chris Rodriguez Jr to run for 1,379 rushing yards in 2021, ranking 2nd amongst the SEC.

There are not many details out about a contract and as a matter of fact, nothing is official just yet. However, losing Wolford would be a huge punch to the gut after only two seasons with the UK Football program.

With promising talent such as Eli Cox, Kenneth Horsey, Kiyaunta Goodwin, Tashawn Manning, Jager Burton and Jeremy Flax, the 2022’s edition of the Big Blue Wall is looking to continue the success of recent years.

With major losses such as Dare Rosenthal, Luke Fortner and Darian Kinnard, there will be some major question marks going into the 2022 season. After being named a Joe Moore finalist in 2021, the Cats look to completely reset in the position group.

With spring practice just right around the corner, we can expect Kentucky to make a hire as soon as possible in order to build a relationship with players currently on the roster and potentially bring in transfer options before the start of the next semester.

Please don't leave Eric. We want you here. When you were hired I read your resume and I was like wow, this gentleman has major big-time college and NFL experience plus he has been a head coach. What an impressive resume! I knew we were very fortunate to get Eric and he has done a stellar job in his first two years here at Kentucky. It doesn't surprise me at all that a major power School wants to hire him. Say It ain't so Eric, say it ain't so. Much love and respect from a member of Big Blue Nation. Even if you choose to leave I will wish you and your family many blessings. I would hate to lose…
