Here's a stat you probably wouldn't have thought you'd read before the start of the baseball season: Kentucky has started their season 7-0, their best start in a decade! After a complete facelift (due to the transfer portal) during the offseason, it appear Nick Mingione is here to remind College Baseball fans that Kentucky will be in position to compete in the SEC.
After 7 games to launch the 2022 season, Kentucky has shown consistency along the batting realm. UK has 4 players that have earned at least one hit per game: Oraj Anu, Daniel Harris IV, Ryan Ritter and star IF senior Jacob Plastiak. In their most recent game against Western Michigan, Plastiak went 3-4 with a run, as well as an RBI.
Kentucky will look to keep the momentum rolling tomorrow, March 1st as they face in-state foe Western Kentucky at Kentucky Proud Park. The first pitch is scheduled at 4 PM, and can be streamed on ESPN+.
It is safe to say that after a 7 game win streak there is growing belief that 1.) Mingione is off of the hot seat and 2.) The staff will recover after much of the roster entered the transfer portal after the 2021 season.
