Kentucky Falls In This Week’s AP Poll

The Kentucky Wildcats took a pretty big hit in the weekly AP Poll rankings this week and rightfully so as Kentucky went 0-2 at home with two losses to both Florida and No. 5 Tennessee. The loss to the Florida Gators last Wednesday night wasn't a horrible loss on paper, however it was the way the Wildcats lost as they were up four points with 25 seconds to go, allowing Florida to force it to overtime and you know the rest.

Now Saturday's game against Tennessee was a little bit different as this was a game in which Kentucky was behind for the full forty minutes of action. The Wildcats didn't show any fight coming out of either half and basically let the Volunteers walk all over them on their way to a 103-92 victory over the Cats - the highest points put up by an opponent inside Rupp Arena under the Head Coach. With that being said, Kentucky dropped seven spots this week, however, they are still barely outside the top-15 as they are currently ranked seventeenth in the country.

Here is what the AP Top-10 looks like as of today.

  1. UConn

  2. Purdue

  3. North Carolina

  4. Kansas

  5. Houston

  6. Tennessee

  7. Marquette

  8. Arizona

  9. Duke

  10. Illinois

Kentucky's schedule doesn't get any easier from here unfortunately. Honestly the easiest game they will have over the next four weeks is their game tomorrow night against the Vanderbilt Commodores. This is the first of the home-and-home meetings against the Commodores and this one is in Nashville so even though Vanderbilt is horrible by every stretch of the imagination, and we know that it is never a given to go on the road and win. After that it just keeps getting harder for the Wildcats as they host both Gonzaga and Ole Miss within a four day stretch and then they get two tough road games after that at Auburn and at LSU.

These next two games are definitely "get right" games against Vandy and Gonzaga as both of these teams are in great danger of missing the NCAA Tournament. If Kentucky slips up against either of these teams then one has to become even more worried about the Cats' chances in March.
