Kentucky Football Spring Game Cancelled, Open Practices To Come
There has been an update with regard to the 2023 Kentucky Football Spring Game. Earlier this evening, UK Athletics announced the dates for the Kentucky Wildcats' annual spring football practice which has now been canceled, and since replaced with a spree of open practices that fans can attend from March 6-April 8. The reason for all of this is that the turf is scheduled to be replaced inside Kroger Field.
It is kind of a bummer to go another year without a Kentucky Football Spring Game but they are in the process of doing something so that the Big Blue Nation can catch an early glimpse of the Wildcats in Spring practice. More details on that will come at a later time.
The Spring Game can have both pros and cons. It can give the team more time to experience in-game situations even if it is against one another, however, the downside to a spring game is it is just another time that players can come away with an injury as well, even when it is just considered a light practice, which we have seen happen in recent years.
The other part of this is the news that Kroger Field is getting a big time facelift. The main reason the Spring Game has been canceled is because the turf is getting replaced and one has to be really intrigued by this. Does this mean a whole new field design? No more checkerboards? Who knows, but maybe it will be the same field design but just replaced as a whole where it had been quite some time since it was installed and has seen plenty of wear and tear over the years.
As the days go by, I am sure we will learn more about the open practices and what they all intel, including what other potential renovations to Kroger Field might come in preparation for the 2023 football season, which we will keep you updated with those when they come out. This will be a great chance for Wildcat fans to come out and see both new and old faces for that will be around this fall.
