Kentucky Offers Adou Thiero

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

John Calipari has reached out to 2022 recruit, Adou Thiero, today and offered him a scholarship to play at the University of Kentucky.

Thiero is a 6'5" combo guard from Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, PA. Thiero is currently unranked on 247Sports, however, apparently, both Calipari and Orlando Antigua saw something promising out of the young man in order to deem him worthy of a scholarship offer. Thiero also has some interest in some other top schools such as Cincinnati, Ohio State, and Indiana.

John Calipari has some history with Thiero as he coached his father, Almamy Thiero, back in his days as the Memphis Head Coach. Thiero is averaging 23.3 points per game as a senior, having played in just 28 games.

With the uncertainty of the 2022-23 roster, John Calipari knows that he is going to need some help from both incoming high school recruits as well as the transfer portal. We know that more than likely Kentucky will lose several players in the off-season either to the transfer portal (only Dontaie Allen thus far), graduation (Kellan Grady and Davion Mintz), and possibly the NBA Draft (potentially Tyty Washington, Shaedon Sharpe, and Oscar Tshiebwe).

That leaves us with Sahvir Wheeler, CJ Frederick, Jacob Toppin, Keion Brooks Jr, Daimion Collins, Lance Ware and Bryce Hopkins. I think there is a good possibility out of this group Kentucky will lose a couple more to the transfer portal alongside Allen. Kentucky does have two talented freshmen coming to Lexington this fall with Cason Wallace (CG) and Chris Livingston (SF).

I know Thiero probably isn't the highly sought-after recruit that Kentucky fans long after year in and year out. I do however think that Thiero will be a good project for Cal if he does choose to play for the Wildcats and will be able to develop over the next few seasons.

We still have a roller coaster of an off-season to go through until we can find out more about what the 2022-23 roster will look like, but, it does seem like Calipari is still out working really hard on the recruiting trail.
