Kentucky Offers UAB Defensive Back BJ Mayes

With the announcement that Andru Phillips will be entering his name into the 2024 NFL Draft, Kentucky is looking to add some depth to the already slim secondary. Today we found out that BJ Mayes, a defensive back from UAB, has been offered a scholarship from Kentucky per his social media.

Mayes entered his name into the transfer portal just barely over a day ago and besides Kentucky he has managed to received several other offers from schools such as Auburn, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Houston, Illinois, TCU, Arkansas, and Memphis. I expect many more to follow that list in the coming weeks. The 6'1" cornerback spent two seasons at UAB after transferring from Incarnate Word back in 2021.

In those two seasons with UAB, BJ Mayes was able to rack up 82 total tackles (61 solo), 3 interceptions, and 21 pass deflections. BJ will have one season of eligibility left wherever he decides to attend college for his senior season. This is a big decision for Mayes as he wants to go to the best place to set himself up for a potential shot to go to the next level after his collegiate career. A secondary with Maxwell Hairston and BJ Mayes would definitely be a good start to Kentucky's secondary woes going into the 2024 season.
