Kentucky Parts Ways With Rich Scangarello
As first reported by WLEX 18, Head Coach Mark Stoops has made the decision to part ways with offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.
Coach Stoops made the tough decision today, after the offense struggled to find any continuity for most of the season. Scangarello's offense has been seen as too complicated for the college level, which led to confusion many times on the field. In just twelve games as the Kentucky offensive coordinator, Scangarello's offense averaged just 216.1 passing yards and 120.3 rushing yards a game. That poor offensive output led them to a 7-5 regular season record, which was seen as a letdown, given the preseason expectations.
Coach Stoops will now have to hire his third offensive coordinator in the last three straight seasons. Some early names that have been mentioned as possible replacements are current LA Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen, former Florida head coach Dan Mullen and current Ohio State passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Brian Hartline, who is also the brother of former UK quarterback Mike Hartline.
