La'Vell Wright Enters The Transfer Portal

Kentucky started Spring Practice with six scholarship players at the tailback position, however, with the spring transfer portal window opening next week, it isn't much of a surprise to hear some of the names that will likely enter the portal. The Kentucky football program learned today who their first transfer will be during the spring and it appears to be La'Vell Wright, thus leaving the new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan with five tailbacks on the roster.

“BBN, Thank you for the support over the past 3 years. I was able to accomplish a big goal of mine, which is graduating from the University of Kentucky.”

He continued with, “I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, trainers, EQ staff, and academic staff for helping to shape me into the man I am today. The friendships and relationships I've built over the past 3 years have played a huge part in my life and will continue to do so down the road. This journey is far from over, and l'm blessed to continue to grow as a player and a person. I will be entering the portal as a graduate transfer with Three years of eligibility. None of this would be possible without my Lord and Savior, being there to guide me through all obstacles.”

La'Vell Wright joined Kentucky in 2021 as a 3-star prospect from Radcliff, Kentucky where he played high school football for North Hardin High School. During Wright's high school career, he managed to rush for over 4,000 yards and managed to find the endzone on 53 occasions. When choosing what college he wanted to continue his athletic career at he ended up choosing Kentucky over schools such as Duke, Maryland, Missouri, Purdue, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

During his freshman season in 2021, Wright played in four games against ULM, New Mexico State, Louisville, and Iowa. In these four games, Wright rushed on nine occasions for 118 total yards and 1 touchdown. Eventually he took a medical redshirt during his freshman season thus giving Wright two seasons of eligibility left in his collegiate career. In 2022, he played in all thirteen games under then offensive coordinator, Rich Scangarello. La'Vell Wright only ran the ball for 39 attempts for a combined 120 rushing yards during that season.

Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2023 season due to an injury and couldn't take a redshirt since he already used it in 2021. With the transfer portal officially opening back up on April 16th, Wright says he will officially enter his name into the transfer portal and will look for a new home for the remaining two years of his collegiate career.

Wishing him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
