Another non-conference game has been announced for Kentucky's 2023-24 season. It was just announced that Kentucky will take on the North Carolina Tarheels in the CBS Sports Classic. This game is scheduled for December 16th at 5:30 p.m EST. The event will be held at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. This match-up with be the main event, the other game will take place between UCLA and Ohio State who will open things up with that game tipping off at 3:00 p.m EST.
The game will be televised on CBS but will also be available on Paramount + as well. Throughout the years North Carolina has had the advantage over Kentucky as they lead the all-time series between the two teams 25 - 17, although, during the John Calipari era Kentucky has took over the series as they up on the Tarheels 7 - 4 during that time span. Kentucky also has a good history over North Carolina during the CBS Sports Classic as the Wildcats lead that series 3 - 1 since back in 2016.
This will be one of college basketball's first high profile events of the season and the CBS Sports Classic is an annual event that brings together four of the nation's most highly touted college basketball programs. These four teams combine for a total of 26 national championships with UCLA having won 11, Kentucky in second with 8, North Carolina in third with 6 and Ohio State has won 1.
All four of these teams also rank in the top 6 all-time in NCAA Final Four appearances, they combine to have 66 Final Four berths with North Carolina leading the pack with 21, UCLA in second with 18, third goes to Kentucky with 17, and Ohio State has made the Final Four 10 times respectively.
Every year this event makes me feel like college basketball is finally back, I guess it's because it has four powerhouse teams going at it every year but there is just something about it that helps to kick off the college basketball season. So, if you're a Kentucky fan make sure to mark December the 16th on your calendar so that you have nothing else to do other than watch the Cats!
