Kentucky vs. Louisville Basketball Date Announced

With both John Calipari and Kenny Payne out as the head coaches of Kentucky and Louisville, it will be interesting to see what the Kentucky-Louisville rivalry looks like during this upcoming season. Typically the matchup with the Cats and the Cards happens around Christmas time each season, giving the state a great matchup for the holidays. Last season the game was played at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, where Kentucky won with a score of 95-76.

In the first season led by head coaches Mark Pope and Pat Kelsey, the annual rivalry game will be about a week earlier than normal, reportedly set for Saturday, December 14th, per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. The game time and the television broadcast has not been announced yet, but it will be a home game for the Wildcats located inside of Rupp Arena.

Both brand new coaches inherited a pretty blank roster when they took over for the respective programs to be quite frank, and I think it’s going to be very interesting to see how Pope and Kelsey keep the in-state rivalry alive. The one thing to note is that Pat Kelsey does have one of Mark Pope's old players on his roster in Aly Khalifa so that might be something to look for as to if there will be some friendly competition between Khalifa, Jaxson Robinson, and Collin Chandler who decided to follow Pope to Kentucky after that built relationship with him. Collin was a BYU commit and Jaxson was a two-year player for Pope and the Cougars.

Either way it’s going to be exciting and very much a new feeling for the historic college basketball rivalry.
