Kentucky Wesleyan Preview

With the season right around the corner, we take a look at the panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan who come to Lexington Oct. 29th. The game will begin at 7 p.m. est. and it will mark the first exhibition game of the season as well as the first time our players get to face someone besides each other.

These two teams have faced off a total of 13 times. Kentucky holds a record of 9-2-1 versus the panthers.

Kentucky Wesleyan is part of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference which is Division II. They had a record of 10-6 (9-5) last season and lost in the conference championship 64-55 to Cedarville. They are coached by Drew Cooper who is entering his fourth season with the program.

As a team last year the panthers averaged 71.7 ppg and shot 38.6% from the three point line. Their top two scorers from last season graduated but Wyatt Battaile, the senior guard out of Pikeville, KY is looking to fill that role after averaging 12.1 ppg last year. He averaged the second most minutes (31) on the team and shot 40% from 3. The 6-4 guard also led the team in rebounds per game with 7.3. Jamil Wilson looks to be the playmaker on the panthers. The 5-11 fifth year senior averaged 4.2 assists as well as 1.2 steals on defense. The guy that could give Kentucky a look down low is Sasha Sukhanov, the 6-11, 220 lb big man out of Russia. He wasn't an absolute force last season only averaging 4.5 rebounds a game but his size and length could be good for our bigs to go up against.

The exhibition will be held Oct. 29th at 7 pm est. on the SEC Network.
