Mike Stoops Joining Kentucky Football Staff Per Report

News broke earlier today from FootballScoop that UK Head Coach, Mark Stoops, is looking to keep it in the family when finding a replacement for Jon Sumrall (the former linebackers coach) who took a job at Troy University.

Mike Stoops who played in the NFL after an amazing career at the University of Iowa has had some pretty big jobs in his coaching career as well. He has coached for both Oklahoma University and Alabama.

In getting Mike Stoops, not only is Mark Stoops poised to get a coach with whom he obviously is comfortable with, but also has seen programs excel at the highest levels of college football. During the first of two decorated stops at Oklahoma, Mike Stoops helped his brother, Bob Stoops, and the Sooners win the program's 2000 national championship. Mike Stoops was also a defensive analyst on Alabama's 2020 national title winning team.

This year Mike Stoops played the role of Defensive Coordinator for Florida Atlantic University where the Owls only have up 25 points per game. This is a scoring defense that was ranked inside the top 60 and ahead of such Power 5 programs such as Oklahoma, Oregon, Florida, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Texas and Tennessee, among many others.

Losing Sumrall was a huge loss but if this news is to be correct, I believe that this will be an excellent replacement for Sumerall and could be a huge boost for not only Mike's brother Mark but the football program as a whole.
