Oscar Tshiebwe Named Preseason Candidate For Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award

Oscar Tshiebwe, one of the most popular men in the state of Kentucky and arguably the best player in college basketball this season, has now picked up his fourth preseason nomination.

Kentucky’s big man has been named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award watch list. This award is given to college basketball’s best center towards the end of the postseason in the late spring. It now heads to his preseason collection of nominations which include being AP preseason All-American, a CBS Sports All-American, and also the SEC preseason Player of the Year.

Oscar looks to win this award again after taking home the hardware last April. Dating back to 2015, outside of last season (Oscar), no other Wildcat has brought home this award.

He joins teammates Antonio Reeves (Jerry West), Cason Wallace (Jerry West), Sahvir Wheeler (Bob Cousy), and Chris Livingston (Julius Erving) to round out 5 different Kentucky players to be nominated for the preseason awards.

Kentucky opens up with their first exhibition this Sunday evening versus Missouri Western State. Oscar will not participate due to his knee rehabbing from surgery.
