Previewing Auburn
In the next few hours, we will finally have Kentucky Football back in our lives. It's been 202 days since we've seen any Wildcats in action, back when Kentucky beat the Florida Gators off of EJ Montgomerys tip-in, and 269 days since Lynn Bowden was swinging punches at Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl. September 26th is the latest start date for a season opener since 1941 for Kentucky. It's long overdue to finally have Kentucky sports resume, and to have our fist 'Caturday,' where the entire state can throw on some blue, crack open some beer, and cheer on our Wildcats to have somewhat normalcy for a few hours.
Kentucky will be going to Auburn with a record of 2-12 inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, coming off a win the last time they visited in 2009. Auburn leads the all-time series 26-6-1, but the 'Cats aren't being projected as the total underdogs. Let it be known that Kentucky has won 5 out of 7 season openers under Mark Stoops, including winning three in a row.
SEC Network and Auburn Football alumni Cole Cubelic told Kentucky Sports Radio that Kentucky-Auburn was a "bad, bad matchup for Auburn." He said the Wildcats "will not be outmatched (physically) on either side of the ball." He even ranked Kentuckys offensive line to be one of the best in the SEC, right behind Alabama and Tennessee. So it's going to a battle in the trenches come Saturday.
No news has came out yet on Joey Gatewood to when he'll be ruled eligible in the SEC, but it's trending heavy that he will not be suiting up for game one. The first official depth chart for Week 1 had Terry Wilson at QB1, with Lexingtons own Beau Allen backing him up.
Terry Wilson is coming off a season injury that took place last year in Kentuckys second game of the season versus Eastern Michigan, where Terry suffered from a torn patellar tendon. That has now been 384 days ago, and Terry Wilson has been rehabbing it ever since waiting for that first chance to get back on the field. Terry says he feels 100% healthy and is ready for Saturday. “I’m not thinking about my leg, I feel like my leg is pretty fine. I have full confidence in my leg and I've had this whole camp to be able to get used to it. I’m just ready to get out there. I’m not thinking about anything that’s going to be difficult.”
“He has been really good (in practice) and I have had a chance to see him make some remarkable plays that gives me confidence,” says Kentucky offensive tackle Landon Young.
