Reed Sheppard Has Committed To Kentucky

Kentucky has just picked up a commitment from one of the biggest talents the state of Kentucky has seen in a long, long time.
The Kentucky legacy of Jeff Sheppard, Reed, has made quite the name for himself across High School basketball, climbing up the charts as just a junior. 247Sports has Reed listed as a five-star, and the top player from the Commonwealth in the class of 2023. The 13th region standout from North Laurel is now tabbed as the 17th best player in the country as well.
Sheppard picks the Wildcats over Virginia, Arizona State, Louisville and a half dozen other. Another top-notch talent that was recruited and brought here by Orlando Antigua, and more importantly, one that needed to be brought here. One of the best in-state talents we've had in decades (outside of Dontaie Allen) and projected to be the next version of Rex Chapman, in terms of popularity and state wide recognition. If Cal would have found a way to mess this one up, fans would have been livid.
Talking to some people, it has become more apparent that Jeff Sheppard and John Calipari's old 'beef' is now squashed and their relationship seems to be good - he wouldn't be committing here if it wasn't... That was the biggest concern through his whole recruitment, and also that other Division I schools started showing interest way earlier than Kentucky, which was not a good look, but ultimately, Kentucky finally shown interest after the AAU season this past summer.
A timeline of Reed's recruitment with Kentucky:
- July 8: Calipari and his top-three assistants watch Reed in person
- July 9: UK officially offers Reed
- Sept. 17: John Calipari visits Reed
- Sept. 24: Reed takes unofficial to UK
- Oct. 15: Reed unofficially visits UK again (BBM)
- Nov. 20: Reed commits to UK
Reed Sheppard becomes the first commitment for the Wildcats in the class of 2023, and we still get a whole season of High School basketball (and the completion of this one) for UK fans to travel and show their support.
He puts on quite the show, full of sold out gyms.
