Reports: Chris Rodriguez Suspension Is (Somewhat) Set

Updated: Aug 20, 2022

Matt Jones of KSR is reporting that Chris Rodriguez will be suspended the first three or four games of the 2022 season. This news has been long awaited by Kentucky fans, after months of being left in the dark on a potential punishment for the star running back. It’s fair to say most expected a one game suspension for Rodriguez, but he has potentially been dealt much tougher cards. The only question now, according to Jones, is whether the suspension will be three or four games.

Obviously the suspension is big news, but the biggest news in this announcement is that Rodriguez will be out for the week two matchup at Florida. The September 10th matchup in Gainesville will be a big tone setter for the Wildcats, as a win all but guarantees a 4-0 September. Kentucky will have to manage without its possibly best player for their SEC opener. They will have to rely on a very capable group of running backs that includes JuTahn McClain, Ramon Jefferson, Kavosiey Smoke, and Lavell Wright.

He’s also reporting that the official announcement will be made next week by the program, so as of today, it’s not official just yet.

Regardless of whether it ends up being three or four games, Rodriguez will be back for the remainder of the SEC schedule and will be on a mission to break Benny Snell’s all-time rushing record.
