Santa Gives Early Gifts To Kentucky Football

Updated: Dec 21, 2022

As Christmas rapidly approaches, many Kentucky Football fans have lots of items on their wishlists for Santa Claus to bring them. A quick browsing of social media the last few weeks has shown that many were hoping for a variety of things for the team. Some folks want players to play in the bowl game. Others want a new offense. Even others have said scrap the entire coaching staff.

Thank goodness Santa knows better than some Kentucky Football fans. He has already given us some early gifts, with a few more big gifts to come. His early gifts include:

  • A New (old) Offensive Coordinator

When Chris Mortenson tweeted that Liam Coen was returning to Lexington following the conclusion of the LA Rams season, shouts of joy could be heard from Lexington and around the BBN. Corn's offense was one of the best that Kentucky had seen since Mark Stoops took over as head coach. His return likely played a part in the next gift.

  • Key Offensive Pieces Staying Put

Coen's return had a large effect on keeping Dane Key and Barion Brown in Lexington. It is widely known that several schools, including the ugly orange to the south, were trying to lure Key and Brown away from Lexington. The allure of a wide open offense had to have garnered some attention, but Santa Claus gave us back Liam Coen and next season will be fun to watch.

  • Upgraded Offensive Linemen

While the guys who manned the Big Blue Wall were solid athletes, many were playing out of position or were brand new to Kentucky. Couple that with a complex blocking scheme, which the old offense required, and you had a recipe for disaster. The early departure of Dare Rosenthal after 2021 left the Wildcats scrambling for a starting left tackle and it showed. The graduation of Tashawn Manning this year created another void. However, Santa Claus delivered again. He gave us Alabama OL Tanner Bowles and Northern Illinois transfer LT Marques Cox. These are immediate upgrades to the Big Blue Wall.

While these gifts are nice, Santa wasn't done yesterday. He also gave Kentucky a replacement for departing cornerback Carrington Valentine with Cincinnati transfer cornerback JQ Hardaway. The best part is that Santa may not be done yet. So, stay tuned to Cats Coverage for more updates.
