There have been a lot of dominos falling in regards to players making their decisions to either enter the transfer portal or to come back for another year at Kentucky. Just recently, news broke about Mark Stoops making possibly some changes in regards to the coaching staff for the 2024 season.
It was announced today that Wide Receivers Coach, Scott Woodward, will not receive a contract renewal at the end of the year. Woodward has been in Lexington for three seasons but after quite honestly a disappointing season in terms of receiving, Mark Stoops must of felt strongly about making a change at that staff position especially considering the fact that we are only four days out from Kentucky's final regular season game against Louisville.
The news was first reported by FootballScoop.com, and one can easily verify the news by looking on the University of Kentucky's website as there is a job posting for his old position with a deadline for applications set for December 6th. This decision was likely not made lightly because of the closeness between both Woodward and Liam Coen, as the two both played college football together at the University of Massachusetts.
Besides keeping Mark Stoops, Vince Marrow, and Liam Coen as the core of this program, this next wide receivers coaching hire needs to be a home-run for Mark Stoops to keep this program advancing. This position has had the highest turnover rate in Mark's time here at Kentucky with no coach lasting any more than three seasons. It is also crucial to get this right because of a couple other things and their names are Barion Brown and Dane Key. Kentucky has to do whatever they can do to try to keep these two names out of the transfer portal this offseason and one would have to assume that they will be keeping a close watch on who Kentucky decides to hire to replace Scott Woodward.
