Several Wildcats Listed In 2024 NBA Mock Draft

During the NCAA basketball offseason, there was some speculation as to how much playing time incoming freshman Reed Sheppard would receive. I think for the most part that we can all agree that Reed has went above and beyond any and all expectations that we had for him, especially early on. We are only seven games into the 2023-24 season and Reed has went from what many may have considered a two to four year player to a potential one-and-done. If you don't take my word for it, take the draft experts.

Here is a list of ESPN's updated mock draft for the 2024 NBA Draft. This is according to their writer Jonathan Givony, who has 5 current Wildcats projected to be taken with a pick.

He currently has Justin Edwards being the first Wildcat drafted at the number 10 spot which belongs to the San Antonio Spurs. It would be cool to see Edwards get to play alongside Keldon Johnson and Victor Wembanyama and become another young valuable piece.

The next Wildcat to come off the board according to Givony is DJ Wagner at number 15 to the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks are a fairly young team doing some rebuilding but it would be beneficial for DJ to get to play alongside former Oklahoma great, Trae Young, who is one of the great guards across the league.

The third Wildcat listed is Rob Dillingham at the number 20 spot to the Cleveland Cavaliers. If this does play out then Dillingham would get to play alongside 2022 All-Star, Darius Garland, who has been killing it in the NBA averaging 21 points and 7 assists in the last two seasons. Cleveland is a spot where he would get a lot of attention as there are no major stars there at the moment.

Next Givony has London (Ky.) native Reed Sheppard coming off the board at the 25th spot to the Indiana Pacers. If anything would get me to switch from a Detroit Pistons fan it would be this. That would put three former Wildcats on the team with Isaiah Jackson, Oscar Tshiebwe, and Reed Sheppard. With them being right up the road in the state above, it would be easy to tag along and go watch as many of their games as possible.

Finally the fifth and final Wildcat to come off the NBA Draft board according to Givony is Aaron Bradshaw at number 39. This pick belongs to the Oklahoma City Thunder which would put a whopping four Wildcats on the roster. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Cason Wallace, and Olivier Sarr are the other three. I feel like this is a little bit low for Bradshaw but honestly it is probably just because he has not seen the floor in a collegiate game so far this season. I feel like he will definitely work his way into the first round by seasons end.

None of these names should really surprise you. Maybe Reed Sheppard, but not really after what we've seen from him. Most of us would have agreed that he had the capability to be an NBA player but like I said, I think we are just surprised on how fast it has happened. We really need to enjoy this group while we have them because they won't all be together past this year, so it'll go by quick and I don't want you to miss out on the ride.
