Tyrese Maxey Named to NBA Rising Stars Roster

Updated: Feb 14

Tyrese Maxey has been selected as one of 12 sophomores in the NBA to play in the Rising Stars game during All-Star weekend. This is now the 12th year in a row that a former Kentucky player has been named to the team.

Maxey has taken full advantage of an expanded role as the starting point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers this season, after Ben Simmons stepped away from the team in October. His playing time has more than doubled to 35 minutes per game, and he has started in 42 out of the 43 Sixers games so far this season. He is also averaging 16.8 points per game (compared to 8 last year), 4.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds. Maxey’s 3-point field goal percentage has increased from 30.1% to 40.1% since his rookie year.

Halfway through a breakthrough second season, it’s no surprise the league chose him for the game. As Kentucky fans have known since his first college game against Michigan State, he’s that guy.

Fans can watch Maxey play in the Rising Stars game on February 18th at 9pm EST on TNT.
