UK Basketball Receives 2023-24 Conference Opponents

Updated: Jul 7, 2023

Monday was a big day for the basketball program. They picked up a major last minute piece from the portal in West Virginia’s Tre Mitchell, while also finding out their conference schedule for this upcoming season. While they don’t yet know the dates or even the times of those games, we at least know the opponents.

The Cats will hit the road for nine games while hosting the other nine inside of Rupp Arena.

AWAY:

Auburn, LSU, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

HOME:

Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

The five teams of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt are the only SEC schools that Kentucky will play twice in the conference schedule, home and away.

Arkansas will undisputedly be the targeted juggernaut of the conference, a team that Kentucky lost to in Lexington last season but defeated in Fayetteville later in the year. I believe the Cats can win both this round if they can just take care of their own play, and not become their own biggest opponent in terms of self-inflicted issues such as turnovers and miss communication. I think behind that, traveling to Tennessee will be tough as usual, just where it’s a “bragging rights” rival game where team records don’t play much of a role. Another notable power, Bama. Alabama looks to have lost a lot of talent from last year’s roster, but on a team that finished 31-6 overall, they still returned a lot of talent as well brought in a very strong recruiting class. I could see how many would have their eyes worried on the Crimson Tide as a team that would be hard to take down next year.

As to the scheduling part of this, we wait. Time and dates will be announced likely in the fall once the season has already tipped off.
