WBB: Kentucky Adds Oregon Transfer
Kyra Elzy and her staff started their weekend off with some great news on Friday evening. Oregon transfer Maddie Scherr has officially signed with Kentucky.
While Scherr may be new to the University of Kentucky, she is no stranger to the Bluegrass. The Florence native was named Kentucky Miss Basketball in 2020 while playing at Ryle High School. Her impressive high school resume was enough to have her named as just the fifth McDonald’s All-American in Kentucky history.
With a five-star rating coming out of high school, Scherr had the opportunity to go anywhere in the country. She decided to travel out west to Oregon and join the top-rated recruiting class in 2020. Throughout her two season in Eugene, the former top-20 recruit averaged 3.7 points, 2.6 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game in her 53 career games. Scherr started 32 of those games.
The signing of the incoming junior makes it 10 newcomers for Kyra Elzy on the 2022 roster. She is one of four players who will be transferring into the program. The healthy mix of experience and talented freshman entering the program is plenty of reason for fans to be excited about this upcoming season.
