What the Fans Wanted to See vs Mount St Mary's
Before the Cats took on Mount St Mary's, I asked the Big Blue Nation what they were hoping to see from the game. Following a 80-55 victory, let's check back in with some of these tweets and see how we did.
Danny has his priorities straight. As always, winning comes first and the Cats took care of business. In terms of our defense, we still had some defenses lapses, but holding an opponent to 55 points and 34% shooting from the field is always impressive. The next step our defense has to take, especially our young guys, is to learn how to defend without fouling. The opposing Mountaineers were given 21 free throw attempts. Luckily they only converted 13, but this will get us in a lot of trouble with other teams.
While I would not say TyTy Washington had a "huge" game, he did take another huge step in the positive direction in terms of his overall play and development. From a scoring perspective, we started to see what all the hype around him was. TyTy finished with 16 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field and 2 of 3 from behind the arc, his first 2 three pointers made all season. He played his best off of the ball at the shooting guard, but struggled to run the point guard again. He finished with 4 turnovers, a couple of which came in the fast break where we had numbers and should have had an easy basket. He also was responsible for a couple of the aforementioned defensive lapses. So once again, this was not a huge game, at least by TyTy's standards. But we are starting to see him do more and more things well.
Bryce Hopkins finished -1 in the +/- over 14 minutes, but I think he picked up a few negative points when he was playing in the second half with the bottom of the bench. I thought he played very productive minutes when he was playing with some of the starters in the first half. Also, if you have not already, check out the new Beers & Buckets podcast. It is a GREAT listen.
Oscar fell short with *only* 16 rebounds, but added 24 points (game and career highs) on 11 of 14 shooting, with 3 blocks, 1 steal, and 1 assist. Despite not getting to 20 boards, I think we are still okay with that stat line, right?
Daimion Collins did not have another poster dunk, but we can never watch the one from last game enough, can we?
And last but not least...
